| 2009 Holiday Miracle |
| December 15, 2009 |

| Today we excavated our final sea turtle nest of the 2009
season! It was laid by an endangered green sea turtle and was on day 105 of incubation. Upon
excavation we were thrilled to find 7 hatched egg shells, indicating that somewhere along
that long incubation, 7 babies made it out. We also have 78 viable eggs that are still in
the incubation process which we will continue to monitor. Stay tuned for updates, as we hope
these eggs will be our holiday hatchling miracles! |

BHI Conservancy, Public Safety and Club staff risked an
anxious gator mom to make sure 10 babies were safe this winter. The lagoon that the
alligator babies occupied was scheduled for a makeover. Since alligators often bury in mud
below the water line and enter a state of much reduced activity during the winter, they were
in danger of being killed during lagoon reconfiguration. The alligators were moved to a
lagoon several hundred yards away that will not be disturbed.
