Children's Camps

    camp beach day

We've taken your feedback to heart, and are enthused to unveil exciting 2014 summer camp additions! A new hands-on curriculum will immerse your children in barrier island ecology. Expect children to come home exhausted, dirty, and smiling from ear to ear! We understand that some children are only able to attend one day of camp. This year, each camp day will introduce children to a variety of topics, animal classes, and conservation activities- in just one session!

Early Camp Drop Off

We appreciate that spending time with your children or grandchildren is what vacation is all about! We also understand that summer camp time allows you to have personal or adult time! We’d like to help you make the most of your mornings by offering an early drop off option- for no additional charge! Bring your Budding Naturalist, Junior Scientist, or Conservation Corps camper to the Barrier Island Study Center’s Rice Theater at 8:30am. Counselors and staff members will provide unstructured play activities ranging from environmental crafts to island bingo. A nature themed film will also be screened. This is a great way to ease timid or nervous children into the day and make new friends before camp begins! Make plans to visit the spa, hit a few golf balls, or curl up with a great book- we hope you take advantage of our early drop off option

Overnight Camp for Ages 7-14

Join BHI Conservancy Naturalists for the first overnight summer camp experience! Campers will learn survival techniques, search for nocturnal island wildlife, and solidify friendships around a campfire. Campers will sleep in the Barrier Island Study Center. Conservation Corps Camps

Many campers report that camp kayak days are their favorite! On separate days, Junior Scientists and Conservation Corps campers will explore the saltmarsh from the seat of a tandem kayak. Please scroll down for a pdf of the kayaking schedule. This will assist you when registering. Kayak days are based on the tides. If a camp kayak day is full, you will be presented with a free trip voucher for your child to use on a scheduled “Kids-only” kayak trip.

Easier Registration System

We have streamlined our Thriva registration system. You will be able to register for programs with ease from the comfort of your own home. Still having trouble? Feel free to give our staff a call at (910) 338-0911 or visit the Information Center located in the entryway of the Barrier Island Study Center. Be sure that you are in an internet browser other than safari. Click HERE to watch as one of our staff members presents a tutorial on the sign-up process.
