The Legacy Foundation - October 2020

“The Bald Head Island Conservancy is the heart of Bald Head, where we are guarding what is unique and meaningful to the island,” says Susan Baker.  The island has been a place that Susan and her family have been visiting for many years.  Susan says her family loves the island as they like to get out in nature, she adds that her family is committed to the preservation and conservation of Bald Head.

Susan is a member of the Legacy Foundation and a former board member of the Conservancy.  The Legacy Foundation was created to give supporters another way to support our mission.  By joining the Legacy Foundation, donors make a planned gift upon their passing, a portion of their estate is written into a will or trust.

“Bald Head was always a little jewel,” says Susan.  “We love the simplicity of the island.  There are so many beach communities with many amenities but we believe Bald Head offers families the unique opportunity to relax and be restored by the many joys of the beach, the marsh and the maritime forest. And then, of course, there are the sea turtles!”

Susan and her husband decided to make their gift a percentage of their will, calling the process simple.  “I’d love to see the Conservancy have an even bigger role in the future of the island.”
