Notes from the Classroom - March 2021

Join the BHI Conservancy for the Statewide Star Party on April 16th!

We are so excited to be an official host organization of the 2021 North Carolina Statewide Star Party. The Bald Head Island Star Party will take place on Friday, April 16th from 7:30 - 10:00 pm at Public Beach Access 39, which is a phenomenal location to stargaze due to there being virtually no light pollution. Join BHI Conservancy staff and volunteers to learn more about our solar system, with a focus on The Moon and Mars.

Telescopes will be set-up and binoculars will be available to look for celestial objects in the night sky. Activity stations will also be spread around the beach where you can build a cardboard rover, make a paper mars helicopter, explore star maps, and learn about moon phases and the universe! Spend the evening playing games, making crafts, and participating in an astronomy-themed storytime. Feel free to bring your own blankets and chairs to the event to hang out on the beach. Please also remember to bring a face covering with you as there will be designated areas where face coverings are required. It is sure to be safe, socially distanced fun for the whole family!

The NC Science Festival’s annual Statewide Star Party is made possible through the generous support of the NC Space Grant.
