Notes from the Field - September 2021

"Shellebrate" North Carolina Oyster Week in October with Bald Head Island Conservancy!

This year, North Carolina Oyster Week is October 11-15, 2021. The Conservancy is working with other members of the NC Oyster Trail to bring attention to this ecologically, culturally, and economically important native bivalve during the month of October, when wild oyster harvest season opens. Please watch our social media channels during the week of October 11 for interesting oyster facts, fun videos, oyster products from Turtle Central, and opportunities to support our oyster reef restoration program!

We also welcome hands-on volunteers on Friday, October 15 from 9 AM - 12 PM to assist us in building three new oyster reefs in Bald Head Creek! If you will be on Bald Head Island that day, aren't afraid of getting muddy, and are interested in joining us for this event, please email conservation@bhic.org.

Looking forward to "shellebrating" with you!
