Sandwich terns are a medium tern species that are white and grey with a shaggy, black crest. They also have a signature bill coloration of a black bill with a yellow tip. A good way to remember them is that they look like they dipped their bills in yellow mustard! The oldest known Sandwich tern was recorded here on BHI! It was originally banded at Kure Beach in 1988, making the bird when it was found about 31 years old!...
