Bald Eagle Tour


Bald Eagle Tour (Winter/Spring)

Watch and learn about our Bald Eagle pair during their nesting season every spring.  Can't make it on a Thursday?  Attend our Birding BHI programs on Tuesday and Saturdays and request to see the Bald Eagles!  Meet at the Conservancy.  Personal golf cart transportation is required.

Bald Head Island offers fantastic opportunities for bird watching during all seasons. With almost 250 different species of birds on BHI, this tour will provide you with fantastic viewing opportunities to see heron, ibis, warblers, and more!  Meet at the Conservancy. Ibis


Ibis Sanctuary Exploration

Explore the quiet solitude of Middle Island while visiting the Ibis Sanctuary, a protected area of land that is private and only accessible with Conservancy staff. This spectacular roosting amidst beautiful scenery is a must-see on the island. We recommend bringing a camera!   Take this 1.5 hour trip to see several species of herons, egrets, and ibis. Binoculars are provided for the trip. Meet at the Conservancy . Personal golf cart transportation is required.

Kayaking the Creeks

Explore the unspoiled creeks of Bald Head Island on a guided trip with Conservancy staff. Learn about the beauty and importance of the salt marsh. Each trip offers a unique perspective of BHI and great views of wildlife.

Double kayaks are used and children must be accompanied by an adult. PFDs, paddles, and kayaks will be provided. Please bring a water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, hat, and clothes that can get muddy and slightly damp.  Trips are tide and weather dependent. Meet at the Village Creek Access on Federal Road.

Low Tide Kayaking


Low Tide Kayaking (Summer)

Explore the Salt Marsh while discovering what is usually hidden on a guided trip through the unspoiled creeks of BHI. Each trip offers a chance to catch crabs, small fish and shrimp using hand nets. Participants must wear closed toe shoes that may get wet.

Double kayaks are used and children must be accompanied by an adult. PFDs, paddles, and kayaks will be provided. Please bring a water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, hat, and clothes that can get muddy and slightly damp.  Trips are tide and weather dependent. Meet at the Village Creek Access on Federal Road.

Take an evening ride along in our beach vehicle to check on the health of our sea turtle nests with our fall interns. This hour and a half program is open to all ages, with children under ten years old requiring an adult chaperone. Only 3 people can participate due to seating restrictions.   Meet at the Conservancy.

Ride along in our beach vehicle to have the chance to witness a nesting sea turtle or hatching nest - with the option of staying until 2AM if you do not see a sea turtle before then. Touch Tank Time

Meet and touch the creatures that inhabit island tidepools!  We have horseshoe crabs, sea stars, whelks, hermit crabs, and more.  Following the lesson, participants will be able to assist with feeding the saltwater animals.  Takes place at the Conservancy.

Turtle Walks


Turtle Walks (Summer)

As a special thank you to our members, we invite you to participate in our wildly popular Turtle Walks! We are granted permission to conduct Turtle Walks through a special state permit that restricts us to a small group in order to protect this natural resource. Due to limited space, Turtle Walks fill up very quickly. Reservations and proof of membership are required for this program. Meet at the Conservancy for a brief presentation about the BHI Conservancy's renowned sea turtle protection program and sea turtle biology. Following the presentation, guests will accompany Conservancy staff to potentially view a nesting or hatching sea turtle event.    Personal golf cart transportation is required.
