The BHI Conservancy is here to facilitate your discovery of barrier island ecology and the legendary Cape Fear.  We have three options available for island retreats.  Rooms are still available.  Book for spring now! Email Amy@bhic.org

Island Exploration Retreats

  • Groups spend a few days/nights at the Conservancy for a field trip or observation
  • Learn about barrier island ecology via our wide array of programs from experienced BHI Conservancy staff
  • Experience barrier island habitats in person
  • Fully equiped facilities that include a dormitory, research library, and multimedia theater

Island Research Retreats

  • Collect samples from island habitats in person (habitats include: salt marsh, maritime forest, coastal beach, and freshwater ponds)
  • Experience barrier island habitats in person
  • Use of our dry lab, wet lab, prep room, and equipment detailed below
  • Fully equiped facilities that include a dormitory, research library, and multimedia theater
